Fasnacht in EY1

Friday, Lainey's class celebrated Fasnacht. "Fasnacht" is the German version of Mardi Gras, but is especially celebrated by children. All around towns this weekend there were parades and parties, but since we had skiing on Saturday, we weren't home for our town's parade. Lainey did get to celebrate at school though.

Kids all dress up in costumes, especially clowns, but really anything goes. It's kind of like Halloween in this respect. Then the kids parade around a town square being as loud as possible! Lainey brought her flute to school and wore her ballerina costume. Parents were supposed to come watch and throw confetti, but since it was raining that morning, they kept the party inside and cancelled the confetti.

Still, the kids had lots of loud fun and ate lots of sweets. Really, what more can a 4-year-old ask for in a holiday? Two ballerinas: Lainey and Kate
