Our first stop on the cruise was Bari, Italy on the east coast of the country, nearly in the "heel" of Italy's boot shape. Not much to see or do here, but I bet the beaches are great in summer. We decided to explore on our own without an excursion, and I'm glad we did. We hired a bike/rickshaw and toured the Old Town.

Bari, and all of the Puglia region, is known for pasta making, especially orichette shaped pasta. We saw one of the Italian ladies making and drying it in her alley. She let the kids feel it and look closely at it.
There was, of course, the requisite church and monuments. We liked this one, which was used like a "time out" pole in the old times. People who broke rules or laws were tied to this pole and other people could see them and throw vegetables at them.

There wasn't a whole lot to explore here, so after about an hour we headed back on board to swim and relax.
