Our Soccer Star

This week, Aidan attended a soccer camp in Zurich with 2 of his friends. It was 4 days in a row from 10-4 each day. LONG days for a not-quite-6-year-old, and I was a bit worried about how he'd handle it. Especially since he wasn't too keen on doing it when I first mentioned it. But, being a pushy mom, I made him go.

Good thing I did, as he LOVED it! He came home smiling, exhausted, and sweaty every day but ready to go again. He liked wearing the soccer clothes, especially his new Swiss team cleats. Here he is in full Swiss Uniform: You can't see the back, but his jersey says "Barnetta" the real name of a Swiss star player!

Today, he came home with lots of prizes! He got a Super Shooter award that says he kicked a goal at 37 km/hr! Pretty fast for a little guy, I think! He got 4 stars on his participation certificate, which is really good, I'm told as other kids just got 2 or 3 stars. It has to do with skills and performance, but I'm not really clear on it. Plus, he won a hat in a coloring contest that was homework. Each player also got a new jersey and medal. He wants to do the camp again! I think they offer it during Fall break from school, so hopefully he can go then too. Maybe I need to look into an after school league. He plays at school on a kind-of team once a week at lunch, but I think that's just playing around, not really drills and scrimmages. I guess he takes after his daddy who played soccer as a kid and into high school!
